Sabrina Kilby vs. M G Credit Inc. d/b/a M G Credit
According to PACER, on or about October 1, 2012 Wisconsin resident Sabrina Kilby received a collection letter from M G Credit Inc. for $11,325.63 debt arising from charges imposed by her former landlord. She contacted the company and spoke with an employee who identified himself as “Bill Cross”. He told her that she would be provided with a copy of the charges. Nearly two weeks later, she received an account statement confirming that the amount of the actual debt was $7,550.42. Believing that M G Credit had added $3,775.21 to the amount of the original debt, Ms. Kilby hired a consumer attorney and sued the agency for allegedly violating the FDCPA in the following ways:
- Using false and misleading means to collect a debt
- Trying to collect an amount not supported by law or the original creditor agreement
